Who is RVing?
In an RV, you sleep in your own bed, you cook your own food and,
if you're lucky, catch it. - Michelle RV owner,
With life getting more and more hectic, and quality time with our
families becoming more the exception than the rule, it's no wonder
that more and more people are discovering the great benefits of
RVing.
Record numbers are taking advantage of the freedom, comfort, affordability
and convenience that RV ownership provides. According to the Recreation
Vehicle Industry Association, (RVIA), nearly one in twelve U.S.
vehicle-owning households now owns an RV, an impressive 42 percent
increase over the past twenty-one years.
According to a University of Michigan study, Baby Boomers form
the largest owner group, of approximately 7.2 million RVs on our
Nation's roads. The RVIA estimates that including RV renters, there
are as many as 30 million RV enthusiasts nationwide.
The University of Michigan study indicates a typical RV owner is
forty-nine years old, married, and has an average household income
of $56,000.00. According to an RVIA survey, RV owners spend their
disposable income on traveling - between 28-35 days annually, for
an average of 4,500 miles.
And let's not forget the increasing number of young families entering
the RV market. According to a recent survey conducted by the RVIA,
short getaways are popular with younger crowds trying to accommodate
busy schedules. From tailgate parties, to sporting events, to short
stints at favorite campgrounds, over 73% or RV owners plan to take
at least three weekend trips this fall and winter.
And what are all these Rvers doing? According to the RVIA survey,
the overwhelming favorite activity of RVers is camping, landing in
at 80%. Attending craft and harvest festivals ranked (47%), fishing
was (46%), viewing foliage (45%), hiking, (44%), biking (36%) and
outlet mall shopping (30%), were also among the activities enjoyed
by RVers. |
